I had been researching in the local newspaper to find a decent skip hire in Manchester. This was because my wife had recently dug up the garden, and she was not impressed at all of the grass that had been "dug up" by my bike. She said that my bike would probably pass the driving test better than me, but I was not bothered. It got rid of the grass well.
I had only just got my bike license, and now I was studying to get my van license. Apparently, the driving test for the van license was twice as hard as that of the bike. This basically spurred me on to do the driving test as I knew it would be more of an accomplishment when I had finished it.
I already owned a van, given to me by my father when I was about 18. He wanted me to become a "white van man" when I was older, which at the time I accepted the role of, but him and I both knew deep down inside that it wouldn't end that way. I did actually have a job as a taxi driver, so I was not that far off of my dad's aspirations.
My wife wanted me to change job from taxi driver to something that worked in an office, this was because she felt more safe if she knew I was working behind a desk rather than behind a wheel. My wife herself worked as a lawyer, and she had been recently studying hard for a law degree at Cambridge, which I was incredibly impressed with her for. She constantly bragged about being better than me, but in a jokey and flirty way, which she knew I loved.
We were both happily married, with two children, who most of the time rode in the back of my taxi with me when I was off duty. They generally loved the taxi environment, the fold up seats and the leather seats, which were very comfortable as they told me. In fact, they loved it so much that when I was called to do my shift they didn't want to leave! I had to kick them out though, although I never really liked to.
